Welcome to the Finnish School of Chicago
Chicago Finnish School was founded in 2006 to serve the needs of Finnish speaking families in the Chicago area. The main focus is on maintaining and developing Finnish language skills as well as teaching and preserving Finnish traditions and culture. The school meets twice a month: every first and third Saturday of the month. The ages of our students vary from 0-15 and they are divided into different learning groups based on their age. The youngest ones enjoy learning by singing, playing and doing arts and crafts. The school-aged children are reading and learning how to write Finnish but are also kept busy with arts and crafts, baking, cooking and playing traditional Finnish games.
In addition to the actual school activities, the members have visited ice-hockey games, the opera and celebrated traditional Finnish holidays together. The school has a library with Finnish books, movies and magazines for both children and adults. The Chicago Finnish School is a great place to meet some Finns and Finnish speaking people in the area.
